Health Ministry Proposes to Scrap the NEET-PG for MD/MS admission

The Health Ministry of India has decided to do away with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission at Post-Graduate level. The decision is to scrap NEET-PG for admission to MD/MS. It will instead consider the score of MBBS final exam for admission. According to resources, amendments have already been made in the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill. The Cabinet is yet to approve the NMC Bill which has been presented by the Health Ministry.

According to the revised Bill, admission to PG programs will be based on the results of National Exit Test (NEXT). The National Exit Test (NEXT) will now be held as a common entrance test across India. Thus, MBBS graduates will no longer have to take a particular entrance examination to get admission in Post-Graduate courses. However, students seeking admission to PG courses offered by AIIMS and NEET Super Specialty will have to take the respective entrance examination.
