Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition

Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition is a three-tier examination started in 1981. The Great Bombay Science Teachers’ Association is the conducting body of the examination. The competition began to encourage an interest in science and to inculcate a scientific aptitude in school students.

Students, of any Board, currently in class VI and class IX are eligible to  participate in the competition.

Phase I

Written Exam:

100 MCQ’s from Science




90 minutes






Phase II


Practical Exam:

Class VI: 5 experiments (6 marks each)

Class IX: 1 experiment in Physics and Chemistry each.

Class IX: 10 questions from Biology, based on 10 specimens

For class VI students – textbooks of class IV, V, and VI

Weightage: 10% questions from class IV, 20% questions from class V, 60% questions from class VI, and the remaining 10% for general knowledge in Science.

For class IX students – textbooks of class VII, VIII, and IX

Weightage: 10% questions from class VII, 20% questions from class VIII, 60% questions from class IX, and the remaining 10% for general knowledge in Science.

Less emphasis will be given on knowledge-based questions and more on understanding, reasoning, and correlation, questions. Questions related to general knowledge in Science will be based on science around day to day life, and recent happenings in the field of Science.

  • Merit wise Top 10% students will get Gold Medal, certificate and one-time scholarship of Rs. 3000/-
  • Next 60% students will get Silver Medal, certificate and one-time scholarship of Rs. 2000/-
  • Remaining all students will get Bronze Medal, certificate and one-time scholarship of Rs. 1000/-
  • Vikram Sarabhai Trophy (Lakshvedhi Gunvatta Puraskar) To school, for remarkable performance which bags maximum medals.
  • Vidnyan Jattha Trophy (Kamal Sahbhag Puraskar) – To school, for maximum participation.

NEET 2019 (Update on 13th June 2019):

The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has announced the schedule for NEET 2019 Counseling, and 2019 NEET counseling and seat allotment for All India Quota/Deemed/Central Universities/ESIC and AFMC will begin from June 19, 2019.

Round One – The registration and fee payment will go on from June 19 to June 26, 2019. The choice-filling will commence on June 27. The seat allotment process will begin on June 27, and July 2 is the date for result announcement. The candidates will have to report to the college allotted to them between July 3 to July 8, 2019.

Round Two – The registration and payment process will go on from July 9 to July 11, 2019. Choice-filling process will begin on July 12. Seat allocation process will go on from July 13 to July 15. July 15, 2019 is the result declaration day for Round 2. The candidates will be required to report to the allotted colleges between July 15 to July 22, 2019.

Mop-up Round for ESIC/Deemed/Central Universities – The registration and fee payment will start from August 13, and go on till August 15, 2019. The choice-filling and seat locking will take place on August 16, and the seat allotment will be done on August 17. The result will be announced on August 18, 2019, and the candidates will have to report to the assigned colleges between August 20 to August 26, 2019.

Procedure for NEET Counseling 2019:

Registration – The qualified candidates of NEET 2019 will register themselves for the NEET counseling conducted by MCC. The process for which includes:

  • Step 1 – Visit the official website of MCC, and open the tab, “New Registration”. After you enter the required information, a new roll no. and password will be generated.
  • Step 2 – Open the tab, “Candidate Login”, and enter the newly generated roll no. and password.

  • Step 3 – After you log in, a new page will open. Then enter all the required details, and press “Submit”.

  • Step 4 – This will lead you to a page carrying all your NTA database. Verify all the information and click on “Confirm Registration”.

Fee-payment – After successfully registering, the candidates will have to pay a registration fee (non-refundable) through online mode.

Choice-locking – During the counseling session, the candidates will have access to a list of colleges and courses, and they must fill their preferences in order of priority.

Seat- allotment result – MCC will conduct the seat-allotment process as per the preferences of the candidates, and then announce the result.

Report to college – After the announcement of the seat-allotment result, the candidates will be get a limited time, and they must report to the college allotted to them within that time.

JoSAA 2019 Registration and Choice-Filling

JoSAA set up by the MHRD is the regulation committee for seat allocation under the top 100 engineering institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. All candidates declared qualified in JEE Advanced are eligible to register for seat allocation in all the participating institutions. The candidates declared qualified in JEE Main are eligible for seat allocation in all the participating institutes except for IITs.

To participate in JoSAA 2019, the candidates can go through the below mentioned procedure:

  • You will have to register using your JEE Main 2019 roll number and password. After logging in, you must check all your personal details as retrieved by the website from your JEE data base. You will then have to modify the contact details, and also create a new password.

  • After completing the registration process, a list of all the courses and colleges will appear before the candidates. You must fill your preferences after going through the list. You will also have a chance to change your preferences in case of requirement.
  • After making the preferences, you must complete the process by clicking on the tab, “I Agree to Lock my Choices”. You must know that making changes will not be possible once you lock the choices.
  • After the completion of the registration process, JoSAA will conduct seven rounds of seat allocation for the academic year, 2019. After the seat allocation, you must pay the seat acceptance fee and have your documents verified for final seat acceptance.
