Indian Institute of Technology Indore is an institute of national importance, established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India), Government of India, which started functioning from July 2009. The institution started functioning in a temporary campus at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Devi Ahilyabai University, under mentorship of IIT Bombay. IIT Indore has also started functioning from its permanent campus in February 2016.
The motto of the institute is ज्ञानम् सर्वजनहिताय that translates into ‘Knowledge is for the well-being of everyone’.
IIT Indore’s permanent campus is at Simrol, Khandwa Road that is located approximately 25 km from downtown Indore. The campus covers an area of around 510 acres. The library of the campus also provides air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled Reading Halls. All the Administrative Offices, Material Management Section, Finance and Account Section, The School of Basic Sciences, The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, The School of Engineering, Basic Science Labs and Engineering Labs are all established in this campus. There are other facilities like, a medical clinic, a computer center, a bank, Smart card facility, etc.
Euristica is the annual coding festival of IIT Indore, held in March April. Fluxus is the annual cultural festival of IIT Indore, held in February.
The hostels or the Hall of Residence at IIT Indore is situated in the permanent campus of the institute at Simrol. It is known to be inaugurated on 29th November 2016 by Prof. Pradeep Mathur, Director IIT Indore. Each hostel has phone, sofa set, fridge, and discussion table for the relaxed stay of the residents. IIT Indore has 5 BHK units to accommodate 5 students, with one student per bedroom. Large spacious rooms with cot, almirah, study table, chair are provided to the students. Other common facilities include dining hall, gymnasium, sports facilities (Table Tennis, Foosball, Volleyball, Football, Badminton, etc.), medical amenity, bank and ATM.
